Dr. Amina Mohamed has said Government is focusing efforts in technical-based learning institutions in seeing to it that graduates are properly prepared for the industry. While applauding TU-K’s world-class training, the CS said government will help in topics building, and seeking out industrial partnerships locally and globally. Speaking without witnessing the manufacturing topics of TU-K that coincided with the 5th Edition of the Africa TechRencontrenoted that university’s efforts are laudable and extremely important at this period in our country’s history. The six-week tech competition hosted at TU-K has attracted teams from Gabon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Zambia and Kenya. The rencontre is facilitated by Avic International in conjunction with Kenya’s Ministry of Education to showcase Africa’s training in technical skills in engineering and technology. Participants have been given an engineering fabrication to manufacture a part for a machine. Eventually, the weightier performing team will be unswayable by a team of experts and will be awarded a contract to manufacture an engineering tool to be exported to China. “This Africa Tech rencontre brings H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta’s vision to fore. His message during the write at the 2017 Jamhuri Day Celebrations serves as our wordage benchmark for the next five years,” said Amb. Mohamed. “The creativity I have witnessed during this tech rencontre is indicative of the potential of our youth, the immense topics of this institution and the strength of partnerships to harness Kenya’s productive capacity.” The CS challenged technical universities and institutions to take up this rencontre required in production topics in, among others, the four front running sub-sectors: undecorous economy, agro-processing, leather and textiles. This she said, manufacturing remains cadre in job creation. The CS guaranteed the Ministry of Education’s openness to facilitating financial assistance and reinforcing partnership, incetivise the private sector expressly micro, medium and small enterprises (MSMEs), finance technical training to vamp the weightier minds and fully implement the provisions of the TVET Act, 2013. In tune to country’s manufacture industry’s vision of; ‘Buy Kenya, Build Kenya’, the Ministry commits to support the university to be a modern learning institution and hence vamp collaborations. The VC, Prof. Francis Aduol said the university was ready to support the country’s economy and government’s ‘Big 4 Agenda’ through hands-on training and imparting students with keys technical and innovative skills. He said the University has huge topics production that meets international standards subtracting that manufacturers in Kenya need not to seek services abroad. “We older were challenged by limited electricity supply that would support full functioning the workshop – that has now been solved, we can comfortably handle any kind of work from industry players,” said Prof. Aduol. This is besides training students in engineering and technical field at the university. He noted that the workshop hold 300 students at a go, and therefore giving the University an whet in technical training. A member of Council, Ms Isabella Ocholla-Wilson who represented the Council Chair Dr. Halima Saado, moreover challenged the management to market the University’s strengths in technology expressly the Housing and Manufacturing components. “You note that this University is variegated from other higher learning institutions. Therefore we need to take lead in delivering the country’s manufacturing and industrialization agenda,” she concluded. The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by her Principal Secretaries: Alfred Cheruiyot (Post-Training and Skills Development), Dr. Kevit Desai (State Department of Vocational and Technical Training (TVET), Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) CEO, Dr. Kipkirui Langat and the Directorate of University Education James Muchiri among other ministry officials. Mr. Cheruiyot moreover praised university’s training and facilities noting that he is interested in supporting TU-K in achieving its mandate. “I will gladly receive you at my office to discuss remoter on how we can support the University in the speciality of skills based-training, the PS concluded.
